The role will be responsible for:

  • Overall enterprise management reporting to the farm manager.
  • Calving patterns and rearing, including AI and genetics.
  • Cow nutrition and feeding and overall animal welfare and care.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe and efficient working environment.
  • Milking and milk recording.
  • Operation and maintenance of machinery (fixed and mobile) and dairy or farm buildings.
  • Paddock management.
  • Participation of on-farm research and development projects, as they arise.
  • General farm work and other duties as required by rota including on call / weekend duties.

Candidates should have:

  • Some experience of managing a dairy herd, or an aspect of management of responsibility on a dairy herd.
  • Knowledge or experience of AI and breeding and of nutrition.
  • High quality stockmanship.
  • Ability to record information and data on breeding, milking, nutrition or any other aspects of dairy herd management that may be required.
  • Ability to work and motivate a team, with good communication skills to both dairy workers and upwards.
  • A desire to work with cows on a top-quality herd, with top quality facilities and for those to be maintained and developed for the future.
  • An ability to operate a range of farm machinery.
  • High regard for health and safety in day-to-day farm operations.
  • A desire to, and interest in, running a profitable dairy enterprise.
  • Have an ability to think freely and provide solutions to new problems as they arise.
